The Mill Town

The world he came from.

Pawtucket: the river and the smokestacks, the tenements of the Jewish immigrant neighborhood, the emptying streets of the post-industrial era. Morris never stopped returning to it. His most distinctive works are assemblages built from wood salvaged out of the town's abandoned jewelry factories — the discarded material of a dying industry reassembled into something that refused to let the place be forgotten. Several remain mounted in their original factory boxes.
